“Don’t play with your food!”, your mom said. While Instagram is blessing us with more #foodporn than ever before, Wardrobe Snacks is giving photogenic food a whole new meaning.
The photo series, created by Kelsey McClellan (photography) and Michelle Maguire (art direction and styling) takes two aesthetically pleasing antipodes to create a satisfying artistic delight. Sartorial statements meet their match with snacks ranging from the glamour of oysters to the pleasure of pizza.
From muted greys to vibrant reds, the series looks at all your various snacks in every hue imaginable. On Wardrobe Snacks and its motivations, the artists say:
“This series was inspired by diners lacking the luxury of being seated at a table: Michelle’s stepdad who rests his sandwich on his thigh in between bites (hell with a plate!) while he blasts an action movie on his TV; a commuter cramped up on a crowded bus retrieving an item from a bag or pocket; a lunch-breaker on a park bench eating from her lap.
They’re informal — perhaps even a bit awkward — spaces as far as eating is concerned, yet the diner always appears to be comfortable and perfectly satisfied with his chosen snack, almost zen-like.”
What diners lack in luxury in the real world, they make up for in Wardrobe Snacks. Precise, tasteful and impactful shots give crisp clarity to the unnoticed mundanities of daily life.
Where every rainbow acai bowl now looks the same, Wardrobe Snacks makes the unnoticed the most therapeutically artistic. Get inspired, which color would your chosen snack be?
